On Tuesday, 30th June, Team Chiptech were delighted to be invited to a wonderful evening at the St John’s Hospice Charity Challenge Celebration, joining a room full of local businesses who came together in May to raise money for one of the most important causes in our community.
Between all the businesses that took part, an incredible £29,000 was raised to support St John’s Hospice and the compassionate care they provide every day. To put that into perspective, this total could fund 725 hour-long Hospice at Home nurse visits, or 1,160 hours of nursing care on the inpatient ward. Numbers like these are a powerful reminder of just how far community fundraising can go, and how directly it translates into real support for real people at some of the most difficult moments in their lives.
We were also incredibly proud and humbled to be presented with the Fundraising Team of the Year award. This recognition belongs entirely to the whole Chiptech team, who threw themselves into the
Charity Challenge with real energy, creativity, and passion for the vital work it was supporting.
The month was filled with fundraising events of all shapes and sizes, including a pub quiz that tested everyone’s general and not-so-general knowledge, and revealed a few surprisingly competitive streaks along the way!
Some of our more adventurous colleagues then took on a self-titled “Park Run Challenge” half marathon, running the Lancaster parkrun in Williamson Park, before running along the scenic canal paths to Morecambe to complete the Morecambe Promenade parkrun too. Better yet, each runner had a smile the whole way through, which is a real testament to just how rewarding the effort was for them.
We rounded things off with a competitive bake sale, complete with prizes for Best Looking, Best Tasting, and Most Unique Ingredient. The latter category was won in memorable fashion by a tomato soup cake, which tasted a lot better than it sounds!
None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our colleagues, customers, partners, friends, and family who donated, cheered us on, and helped spread the word. We’re also thankful for St John’s Hospice and the vital work they do, and for organising such a meaningful event to bring the community together and celebrate everyone’s efforts.
Supporting local causes is something we care deeply about here at Chiptech, and moments like this remind us why. It makes us immensely proud to contribute in any way to our local community, to be part of something bigger than ourselves, and to stand alongside a charity that makes such a profound difference to families across North Lancashire and the South Lakes.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part this year. We’re already looking forward to rolling our sleeves up (and maybe baking some more questionable cakes) again next year!
