Innovation initiative launch at reception with New Zealand Prime Minister

29 April 2025

On Tuesday, 22nd April 2025, Chiptech, represented by our European CEO David Hammond and Marketing Manager Nick Dagger, were proud to join distinguished leaders, innovators, and dignitaries at a New Zealand reception in Westminster, London. The event celebrated the strong partnership between New Zealand and the United Kingdom, and provided a unique opportunity for us to announce an exciting new initiative that will transform the future of healthcare innovation.

Hosted by New Zealand Prime Minister Rt Hon Christopher Luxon, as part of the New Zealand Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Christopher Luxon’s recent visit to the United Kingdom, the evening highlighted both the growing ties between our two nations and the role New Zealand businesses play in shaping global industries.

The United Kingdom Secretary of State for Business and Trade, the Rt Hon Jonathan Reynolds and the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Rt Hon Steve Reed, were also in attendance.

This was a momentous occasion to introduce a new investment and mentoring program designed to support startups in the healthcare and people safety sectors.

A New Partnership to Drive Innovation in Healthcare

At the reception, Chiptech proudly announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Electech Innovation Cluster, a business-led network that bridges the gap between industry, R&D, government, and education. This partnership will launch a funding and mentoring program to support early-stage startups focused on people safety and healthcare solutions.

Cluster Manager, Dan Knowles added, “This partnership signifies the start of an exciting relationship between Chiptech and the Electech Cluster. We’re thrilled that Chiptech will be investing in the local supply chain and hope that the relationship helps us share newfound best practice with our counterparts in New Zealand too.”

The goal? To nurture and scale promising new ventures that can help shape the future of person-centred care, particularly in areas like Telecare, assisted living, personal safety and chronic condition management. Through this collaboration, we’ll provide seed funding, mentorship, and access to Chiptech’s world-class expertise in R&D, design, and manufacturing.

It’s a truly exciting opportunity for entrepreneurs in the North of England, especially given the region’s growing reputation for innovation in electronics. We’ll also be providing startups with access to a global market, with support and reach extending into New Zealand, Australia, and wider Europe.

Making a Significant Impact on the UK Healthcare System

At Chiptech, we’re deeply committed to making a measurable impact on the UK healthcare system, and we’re incredibly proud of the role we’ve already played. Our current UK operations contribute savings of £2 billion per year to the NHS and the broader Health and Social Care sector, thanks to reduced hospital admissions, delayed residential care, and more efficient emergency responses. These savings are projected to reach £5 billion as service volumes grow and develop.

“Our mission is to create technology that genuinely improves people’s lives”, said David Hammond, CEO for Chiptech Europe. “This exciting new initiative will support early-stage innovation and bring to life new products and services with global reach and real world impact.”

Looking Ahead: A Global Vision for Healthcare Innovation

This new partnership is just the beginning of an exciting chapter for us as we continue to expand our global footprint and push the boundaries of healthcare innovation. Through our investment arm and support for startups, we will be working with entrepreneurs who share our vision of improving people’s safety, health and happiness.

We’re also looking forward to seeing the long-term impact that this new initiative will have, not only in the UK and Europe, but also across New Zealand and beyond.

If you’re an entrepreneur or innovator in the healthcare technology space, we’d love to hear from you. Stay tuned for more information about our funding opportunities and mentorship programs, and join us as we continue to create a safer, healthier world for all.
